Due to a high volume of patients involved in serious motor vehicle accidents, SunCoast Blood Bank in Sarasota is asking the public for help.

They need donations for O negative blood type. The blood type helps trauma patients as well as transfusions for cancer patients.

Blood donated helps serve North Port Emergency Room, Fawcett Memorial Hospital of Port Charlotte, Englewood Community Hospital
and DeSoto Memorial Hospital and many other area medical facilities.

Severe weather across the states are also causing shortages for many others and is making it difficult to get type O negative blood.

NCH Healthcare System in Naples posted to social media looking for type O negative blood.
To donate to SunCoast blood bank call 1-866-97-BLOOD and to donate to NCH please call 239-624-4120.
