LEE COUNTY, Fla. -- Deputies arrested a North Fort Myers man accused of a sex crime on a juvenile after he hid from deputies in a wooded area.
25-year-old Jesse Dampier is facing charges of Capital Sexual Battery and Aggravated Assault on an Officer.
According to the Lee County Sheriff's Office, detectives responded to a reported sex crime at a home in North Fort Myers on Friday night, where a juvenile says Dampier sexually assaulted her.
Deputies located Dampier hiding in his home, armed with a long knife. Deputies say he charged at one of them with the knife and fled out the back door.
Deputies and K9s searched for Dampier throughout the night. He was found in a wooded area of North Fort Myers with minor injuries. He was questioned by detectives and then transported to the Lee County Jail without incident.
"This monster is off the streets due to the hard work of our deputies and detectives," said Sheriff Carmine Marceno. "We strive every day to be the voice for those who cannot speak for themselves and protect the most innocent among us. In this case, a child is now safe and their attacker is behind bars, where he belongs."
