GLADES COUNTY, Fla. -- Authorities are warning sex offenders not to fall for a gift card scam that claims there is a problem with their registration.
According to the Glades County Sheriff's Office, the scam is being reported statewide.
They say that registered sexual offenders are being called and told that there is an issue with their registration, and that they must come in and register. They are also told they must purchase gift cards for payment to avoid arrest.
Deputies say that they do not solicit money to prevent arrest. If you are in violation, they will arrest you. They only money involved would be through the bonding process.
They also remind all residents to not send money to anybody you do not know, especially if they are asking for gift cards.
