LEE COUNTY, Fla. -- A Cape Coral man will spend the rest of his life in prison with no chance for parole after being convicted of repeatedly molesting a young child.
33-year-old Michael Wilkins was convicted of 2 counts of Capital Sexual Battery on a Victim Under 12 and Lewd and Lascivious Battery on a Child Under 12 this month after a 4-day trial, according to the State Attorney's Office.
Monday, he was sentenced to two consecutive life sentences with no chance of parole plus 30 years in prison. Even though he will not have a chance for parole, he is also being registered as a sexual offender / predator.
Wilkins was arrested in 2017 by the Cape Coral Police Major Crimes Unit.
The victim reported the crime of sexual abuse in December 2017 to her daycare teacher who then reported the abuse to the Florida Department of Children and Families. It was found that Wilkins repeatedly sexually abused the victim, according to the State Attorney's Office.
