Sex offender arrested, accused of throwing rape victim off bridge in Fort Myers

SARASOTA COUNTY, Fla. -- Investigators have arrested a registered sex offender wanted in Lee County for throwing a rape victim off a bridge.

20-year-old Melvin Williams is in custody on charges of failing to report residence change as a sex offender and failing to register phone number changes.

According to the Sarasota County Sheriff's Office, Williams is accused of raping a female at gunpoint and throwing her off a Fort Myers bridge.

He was arrested in Lee County in 2015 at age 17 for Sexual Assault on a Victim Under Age 12, and is a registered sex offender.

Williams was taken into custody in North Port Monday after leaving a hotel in Port Charlotte.
