CAPE CORAL, Fla. — The newest comic book flick, "Joker," is causing some safety concerns across the country, including right here in Southwest Florida.

According to IMDB, the movie is rated "R" due to things like strong bloody violence, disturbing behavior and language.

Some are afraid that it could lead to violence off-screen.

One of those people is Sandy Phillips, the mother Aurora mass shooting victim, Jessica Ghawi.

"She was a kind, caring, loving person," said Phillips.

Phillips says while she cannot stop Warner Brothers Pictures from releasing the film, she does want the entertainment company to donate money to those who have impacted by gun violence and be more vocal in its support for stricter gun laws.

"If you're planning to make a movie that glorifies violence, then at least give back to those who have been effected by gun violence," said Phillips.

The movie premiered in Southwest Florida Thursday.

Out of an abundance of caution the Marquee Cinemas - Coralwood 10 theater in the Cape has stepped up security.

"Joker" hits theaters nationwide on Friday.
