LEE COUNTY, Fla. – A portion of Interstate 75 in Fort Myers will officially be dedicated to fallen Florida Highway Patrol Lieutenant Daniel Hinton.
In May, Lee County Commissioners approved the stretch between mile markers 130 and 133 to be renamed "Lieutenant Daniel Hinton Memorial Highway."
Hinton was a trooper with Florida Highway Patrol for 32 years.
He suffered a deadly heart attack during a training exercise in February.
“Lieutenant Hinton served the residents and visitors of the State of Florida with great honor as a Florida Highway Patrol Trooper” said Colonel Gene Spaulding, Director of the Florida Highway Patrol. “This memorial highway dedication of a portion of Interstate 75 will serve as a solemn reminder of his sacrifice and dedicated service”.
A dedication ceremony will be held Thursday morning at the FHP office on Daniels Parkway.
