NORTH PORT, Fla. --- The North Port Police Department and North Port Fire Department responded to a shooting at a Community Center on Monday evening.
According to detectives they received a call of a shooting at the Morgan Family Community Center located on the 6200 Block of W. Price Boulevard in North Port around 6:30 p.m.
Once police arrived on the scene, one person appeared to be involved in the shooting, prompting officers to call the incident an accidental shooting. The shooting incident posed no threat to the public.
The 25-year-old male was taken to the hospital with serious, but not life threatening injuries. The victim involved is an Officer for the Sarasota Police Department.
Detectives and crime scene investigators are still investigating the incident.
