SARASOTA, Fla. -- A Florida mom admits the had two shots of alcohol before picking her kids up from school and crashing on the way home.
27-year-old Kimberly Toomey is charged with DUI with Property Damage, DUI with Blood Alcohol Content .15 of Higher and two counts of DUI with a Passenger Under 18 Years Old.
According to the Sarasota County Sheriff's Office, around 6 p.m. on Friday, Toomey had her children, ages 4 and 8, in her car when she rear-ended another car that had already crashed into another vehicle on Tuttle Avenue at Southgate Circle.
Deputies report that Toomey smelled of alcohol and appeared impaired at the scene. She told deputies that she had picked up her children at pre-school and the Boys and Girls Club before the crash and claimed she did not have anything to drink, since she was at work before that.
She later admitted while at the hospital that before she picked the kids up, she added two shots of Captain Morgan to her cup with soda. Her blood alcohol test revealed a .355 BAC, more than four times the legal limit.
DCF has taken custody of her children, and Toomey was booked into the Sarasota County jail. She was released Saturday on $860 bond.
