The mayor of Sanibel is asking the public to join him in his fight to keep Southwest Florida's waterways free of toxic algae blooms. He's wants Southwest Florida residents to ask the federal government to restore water testing funding.
According to the Environmental Defense Fund, the federal government's budget will eliminate much of the funding for testing. Without that funding, toxin levels in water go unchecked and can result in dangerously high levels like we are seeing now,
Now, the mayor of Sanibel who has been very vocal in his calls for action to improve the water quality in the area is asking for your help. He sent out a letter urging the public to call on the White House to restore money and resume the water testing.
In his letter he asks the public to call President Trump, Senator Bill Nelson (D-Florida) Senator Marco Rubio (R-Florida), and other lawmakers.
