CAPE CORAL, Fla. — Cape Coral police offer tips to prepare for Red, White and Boom, the city's annual 4th of July celebration.

More than 30,000 people could show up at a time for Thursday’s fireworks show. Cape Coral police officers will patrol the area, but they have a few tips to keep everyone safe.

Spokesperson Master Sergeant Patrick O’Grady said make sure you’re aware of your surroundings. He said if you’re bringing small children, keep them close to you. O’Grady said they have to find at least one or two missing children at the end of the fireworks show every year. He recommends a good place to meet up if you or your child gets lost.

“If you bring a child, and they may get lost or someone may get lost, our mobile command vehicle is lit up really well, big lights on the side. And it’s always parked in the Aubuchon Homes parking lot."

Outside alcohol or fireworks are not allowed at the show. O’Grady said you should leave your furry friends at home, too.

"We don’t want anybody bringing their pets, because that could lead to a dog bite. Or whatever animal you’re going to bring, it could turn into a bad situation,” he said.

And you might want to bring an umbrella since it rains pretty much every year, and it is in Thursday’s forecast.
