COLLIER COUNTY, Fla. -- County officials are warning residents of misleading door hangers about water services appearing at homes.

The Collier County Public Utilities Utility Billing and Customer Service Office recently received reports of a company offering water services information was using a phone number similar to the county's customer service number.

The company was seen in the Naples Manor neighborhood going door-to-door and leaving door hangers at residents’ homes.

The county says their staff carry government IDs and wear uniforms bearing the Collier County logo. Vehicles are clearly marked with the Collier County logo.

If there is ever an issue with a resident’s water service, utility workers from the Collier County Public Utilities Department will attempt to contact the property owner. If contact isn’t possible, the utility technician will leave a card or notice that is clearly branded with the Collier County government logo.

If you have questions about any notice left at your home or about your water or wastewater utilities, please call Collier County Public Utilities Utility Billing and Customer Service Office at 239-252-2380.

If you notice anyone in your neighborhood that you believe may be attempting to impersonate County staff, please report it immediately to the Collier County Sherriff’s Office at 239-252-9300. If you wish to remain anonymous, call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-780-TIPS (8477).
