Red tide reported in Lee, Charlotte, Collier counties

A bloom of Karena brevis has been observed in three southwest Florida counties, the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission said. 

K. brevis causes red tide blooms. 

It has been observed by the FWC at the following levels in the following counties: 

  • Background to very low concentrations in five samples from Charlotte County
  • Background to very low concentrations in 16 samples from Lee County
  • Background to medium concentrations in two samples from Collier County.
