LEE COUNTY, Fla. -- A story we've been sharing since last year has a happy ending.  Abigail, a 1-year-old pit bull, was rescued from Miami-Dade County back in November by a Southwest Florida organization: Love is Fur Ever.

Experts suspect she was a victim of dog fighting.  She had severe injuries and was missing an ear.

Since then, an Estero pet hospital performed a skin-graft surgery by taking skin from her shoulder and placing it over where her ear used to be.

After Abigail's lengthy recovery, she finally found her forever home. And now, she is using her story to help other dogs and people.

Next month, Abigail is headed to California for the American Humane Hero Dog Award.   She has already won the category for 'Emerging Hero Dog.'

Abigail has won $2,500 for the charity 'Dogs on Deployment', who find foster families for dogs of service members who are going on deployment.

Abigail will be visiting the Fox 4 studio Thursday morning with her foster mom Victoria and her adopted mom Megan to tell you how you can help Abigail win the overall title at the American Humane Hero Dog Awards and $5,000 for Dogs on Deployment.
