CHARLOTTE COUNTY, Fla. -- The Punta Gorda Police Department is getting a prestigious grant that is only awarded to 32 police agencies in the United States.
It's called the Body Worn Camera Policy and Implementation Program, or BWC for short.
The grant will help pay for the department to wear body cameras, which will happen in 2020.
The grant would cover 50% of program.
Punta Gorda Police leaders have been researching several camera options. They are currently testing Axon body cameras.
It's the same kind that are used by Fort Myers Police.
