Punta Gorda flight diverted to Gainesville due to pilot illness

GAINESVILLE, Fla. -- An Allegiant Air flight destined for Punta Gorda instead had to make an emergency stop in north Florida due to a pilot illness.

According to Gainesville Fire, the Airbus 320 plane landed safely at Gainesville Airport and emergency medical responders were on scene treating a pilot for a seizure.

The flight left Cincinnati/Northern Kentucky International Airport on Thursday morning bound for Punta Gorda.

Instead crews were forced to land in Gainesville at 8:39 a.m.

The flight was rescheduled to leave Gainesville at 1 p.m. and arrive in Punta Gorda at 1:35 p.m.
