Proposed dollar store causes outrage

People living in Lehigh Acres are outraged because a developer has unveiled plans for a new dollar store in the area.

Neighbors have turned to social media to express their anger over the new Dollar Tree location. It would sit a the intersection of Homestead Road and Marble Brooke Boulevard. Nearly 400 people have posted about their frustrations online. Many of their sentiments have a common theme. People living in Lehigh say there are too many dollar stores. We found a total of 18 dollar stores in Lehigh Acres.

Several residents brought up two major concerns with the stores. Parents say the store would bring increased traffic, and make it dangerous for their kids waiting at a nearby bus stop. Residents also worry about crime. We have reported on several dollar store robberies across Southwest Florida this year. Some neighbors think adding another store would only add more crime.

Still, some people think adding a new store will be convenient.

The Lehigh Acres Zoning Review board has not made an official decision on the project. They say they will share the concerns the public has with the county commissioners.
