PORT CHARLOTTE, Fla. - A 2012 Port Charlotte High School Graduate is serving in the U.S. Navy aboard a forward-deployed mine countermeasures ship in Japan.

Petty Officer 2nd Class Joey Joseph is currently aboard the USS Warrior serving as an information system technician, the U.S. Navy said in a release. Petty Officer Joseph's ship routinely deploys to act in several capacities in the region.

The USS Warrior has a crew of more than 80 men and woman. It is designed to neutralize mines from vital waterways.

“Serving in the Navy means protecting my country, protecting my shipmates, and more importantly protecting those I love,” Joseph said in a release.
