VENICE, Fla. — A Port Charlotte man died in a six vehicle crash involving multiple trucks on Interstate 75.
At about 8:20 a.m., on March 13, a semi-tanker hauling powered concrete was traveling southbound on I-75, just south of Laurel Road (Exit 195).
Traffic was backed up due to another crash at mile marker 193, near Jacaranda Blvd.
The semi driver was unable to stop and collided with five vehicles in front of him.
The semi overturned and came to rest in the southbound travel lanes.
The driver of the semi, a 46-year-old man from Port Charlotte, was pronounced dead at the scene by Sarasota County EMS.
Two other truck drivers are in serious condition. Both are 43-year-old men. One is from Kissimmee, the other Sarasota.
Three other drivers were involved without injury.
The southbound lanes of Interstate 75 remained closed from SR 681 (200 MM) to Laurel Road (195mm) for several hours.
Florida Highway Patrol is investigating the crash.
