**UPDATE** -- Police were able to safely take the subject into custody at the Laurels apartment complex in Fort Myers Thursday.
After six hours, the person was taken into custody without violence and no shots were fired.

FORT MYERS, Fla. -- Police are urging drivers to avoid an area near Edison Mall until a situation clears.
The Fort Myers Police Department closed Solomon Boulevard between Winkler Avenue and Colonial Boulevard around 10 a.m. Thursday.
Early reports indicate an attempted suicide in progress at The Laurels apartment complex, and officers are working to diffuse the situation.
Fox 4 has a crew at the scene and will update as we learn more.
