Pedestrian killed trying to cross US-41

PORT CHARLOTTE, Fla. — A 50-year-old man was killed attempting to cross a busy highway Wednesday morning.

Florida Highway Patrol says the man was trying to cross the southbound lanes of US-41 in Port Charlotte near Main Street just before 7 a.m. when he was struck by an oncoming sedan.

The man was pronounced dead at the scene. The crash remains under investigation.
