Patient safety ratings released for Southwest Florida hospitals

LEE COUNTY, Fla. -- When it comes to a serious surgery or medical emergency, choosing the best hospital for you and your family is important.
New safety grades for hospitals in Southwest Florida were just released and some local hospitals may not have performed as well as you'd hope but it's not all bad news.

Here are the patient safety ratings in our area:

A:
Lee Memorial Hospital
Cape Coral Hospital
Gulf Coast Medical Center
Healthpark Medical Center
Englewood Community Hospital

B:
NCH Baker Hospital
Fawcett Memorial Hospital
Lehigh Regional Medical Center

C:
NCH North Naples Hospital
Bayfront Health Punta Gorda
Bayfront Health Port Charlotte

The Leapfrog group is a non-profit organization dedicated to patient quality and safety in the U.S. health system.

The group looked at the rate of hospital errors, injuries, accidents, and infections and assigned a letter grade for each hospital.
