WFTX — Americans hoping to travel out of the country will have to wait several months if they need a passport.
The State Department says if you're applying for a new passport or renewing one, you could wait up to 18 weeks. The wait can be cut to 12 weeks if you pay extra for expedited processing.
Officials blame the long wait on increased demand, a shortage of appointments, and delays with the U.S. Postal Service.
