Parents shocked to learn of drug bust near Cape Coral Elementary School

CAPE CORAL, Fla-- A Southwest Florida man arrested on drug related charges just hundred feet from Cape Coral Elementary School.

25-year-old Sean Christopher Russette was arrested and charged for possession of meth and intent to sell within 1000 feet of a school.

"Yea it's closer than I'd like sure it is," said Linda Valenta.

Valenta is a grandparent to a student at Cape Coral Elementary School. She along with other parents were talking about the arrest during afternoon pickup Tuesday.

"It's just too close anywhere for this to happen, but you know it's literally right here next to my son's school and it's just disgusting," said parent Amanda Konopinski.

Cape Coral PD said it started when a neighbor called about a suspicious car driving near the school Saturday night. The police report said once an officer caught up with the driver of the car he said he was trying to find a friend's home but didn't know exactly where he lived.

It didn't take long for the officer to spot a clear plastic baggie with a white substance inside sitting on passenger seat. After a search of the car, police also found scales and syringes with residue.

"You know meth is bad , opioids, heroin, the overdoses, the deaths you know it's all very disheartening," said Valenta.

Grandparents and parents said it's disheartening but they are confident the school is doing everything it can to protect its students during school hours.

"Oh they're good, they lock the place down, the gates are closed, no one can go through the office without showing i.d they are good, they are good about that," said Konopinski.
