One person dead after a three-vehicle crash in Port Charlotte

A three-vehicle crash in Charlotte County leaves a 38-year-old man dead.

It happened on U.S 41 and Hancock Ave.

Florida Highway Patrol says a sedan and van were both stopped in the southbound lane of U.S. 41 at a red traffic light for Hancock Ave.

Troopers say the van was behind the sedan.

The 38-year-old man was traveling down the left lane of southbound U.S 41 in a sports utility vehicle.

They say he failed to slow down, and the front of his vehicle collided with the van's rear end.

Investigators say the front of the van crashed into the rear of the sedan.

The driver of the sports utility vehicle was taken to the hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

Two other people had minor injuries.
