One dead, two seriously injured in Charlotte County crash

CHARLOTTE COUNTY, Fla. — Florida Highway Patrol Troopers are investigating a deadly crash at Veterans and Atwater Street in Charlotte County.

The call was received at 3:49 am this morning.

According to an FHP report, vehicle 1 driven by a 23-year-old male from North Port was traveling east at a high rate of speed on Veterans Boulevard, approaching Atwater Street.

Vehicle 2 driven by a 31 mal from Port Charlotte was traveling north on Atwater Street, approaching Veterans Boulevard.

Vehicle 1 proceeded through a steady red traffic signal as vehicle 2 entered the intersection of Veterans Boulevard from Atwater Street.

The front of Vehicle 1 collided with the left side of Vehicle 2.

Vehicle 1 came to rest in the center grassy median of Veterans Boulevard.

Vehicle 2 traveled north, across the westbound lanes of Veterans Boulevard, and collided with a tree on the north shoulder of Veterans Boulevard.

Driver 1 and the passenger a29-year-old female from Port Charlotte from Vehicle 2 were transported to Lee Memorial Hospital with serious injuries.

The driver of vehicle 2 is deceased.

The crash investigation remains ongoing and charges are pending.
