One dead, three injured in Kings Highway crash Monday night

DeSOTO COUNTY, Fla. -- One driver was killed and three others were injured Monday night in a head-on crash on Kings Highway.

The crash happened at 9:24 p.m. on Kings Highway/C.R. 769 just south of Fort Winder Street.

According to Florida Highway Patrol, 29-year-old Kyle Whidden was driving a pickup truck southbound when he drifted into the northbound lanes on a curve in the road. His truck collided with a nrorthbound SUV.

Whidden was pronounced dead at the scene.

The three occupants in the SUV were all seriously injured and taken to DeSoto County hospital. They have been identified as 53-year-old Maria Castro, 12-year-old Alex Castro, and 20-year-old Erandy Castro.

The crash remains under investigation.
