SANIBEL, Fla. — Lee County Sheriff's office confirmed that a kayaker died after a boating accident near Sanibel Causeway on Saturday.
The incident happened around 11:00 p.m. Deputies said a caller reported that a kayak with one person on board did not return to shore after paddling out a short distance.
According to deputies, a good Samaritan launched a second kayak and located the kayak and missing person, who was unconscious in the water.
The victim was taken back to shore where people tried performing CPR. Deputies said the victim was transported to Health park Hospital, where the victim later passed.
Deputies said this is an ongoing investigation. .
