Officers treated after drug exposure at traffic stop

FORT MYERS, Fla. -- Two officers were taken to the hospital Thursday after they were exposed to a substance that caused a reaction.

According to Fort Myers Police, the officers were conducting a traffic stop on U.S. 41 at Hill Avenue when a gust of wind blew an unknown substance onto them.

As a precaution, they were transported to the emergency room at Lee Memorial Hospital, where they are undergoing tests for possible drug exposure.

Police sat the stopped vehicle and suspect have been impounded and the officers appear to be doing well.

This is an active investigation.
