NORTH PORT, Fla. -- A nearly nine-hour standoff in North Port Monday morning ended peacefully.

Police say 34-year-old Roman Melnichuk refused to come out of his house this morning around 3 am. There was a 1-year-old baby in the house. Melnichuk had reportedly been drinking alcohol and smoking "spice," or sythnetic marijuana, with a juvenile. Police say he also battered a woman there and a sexual battery occurred.

At one point the man came outside with a knife and threatened to kill himself. During the standoff, police convinced the man to hand over the baby. He surrendered without incident later.

He's charged with wo counts of Aggravated Assault, one count of False Imprisonment, two counts of Domestic Battery, and one count of Contributing to the Delinquency of a Minor.
