Arrest made in North Port homicide

NORTH PORT, Fla. — UPDATE (9:45 AM)--North Port Police responded to a call about a shooting on Chesapeake Avenue.

Dispatchers notified officers Shawn Baker,47, had called 911 to tell them he had just shot someone, and the gun is loaded and located in a bedroom.

Baker told 911 that he would be waiting for officers to arrive and that he will be on his knees with his hands up. When officers arrived, that is how they found Baker. Officers arrested him.

Life-saving measures were performed on the victim. The victim was pronounced deceased at the hospital.

A police reported stated the victims' three children were there at the time of the shooting but did not witness the shooting.

Baker was arrested for homicide.

There is no threat to the surrounding community.

The North Port Police Department is investigating a homicide on Chesapeake Avenue.

Investigators say NPPD received a call about a shooting.

When officers arrived on the scene, they found a deceased female.

They say a potential suspect has been detained.

The investigation is ongoing.
