IMMOKALEE, Fla — Turkeys Take Flight celebrated its 8th year, delivering turkeys to families in need in Immokalee.
The event for the non-profit was a little different this year due to COVID-19.
The turkeys were delivered by ground this year instead of a World War II-era DC-3 and a small fleet of private planes.
Instead, vehicles drove 250 turkeys and "trimmings" to the Redlands Christian Migrant Association in Immokalee.
"Unfortunately this year the DC-3 will not be honored with a shower, a "water salute" traditionally performed in honor of pilots completing their last flights before retirement," Tom Powers, operations director of Turkeys Take Flight, says.
"We hope to return to the air next year once the pandemic is behind us."
FOX 4 was able to see lines of parents with strollers waiting to receive their turkey.
