LEE COUNTY, Fla.- The Lee County Sheriff's Office now has a new gun storage policy.

They made the change after a deputy had several guns stolen out of his patrol car while it was parked at his Cape Coral home.

The new policy requires specialty guns, like automatic weapons or sniper rifles, to be stored inside the home when off-duty or when the guns are not being used.

Deputies using rental vehicles won't be allowed to leave the guns in their patrol cars unattended for an extended period of time.
