FORT MYERS, Fla -- Fort Myers is one of the fasted growing cities in the United States, according to the Lee County Economic Development. To keep up with the growing population the city established the Downtown Redevelopment Plan.
It’s designed to mix the existing historic area by building up the mostly vacant riverfront.
Some plans include adding retail shops, restaurants, outdoor public spaces, and the luminary hotel, which is currently under construction.
“With the schedule of the Luminary Hotel being built that’s going to bring, open the doors for a lot more tourists to come down here,” said Sbuttoni.
Vantage is another project in the works, located near Carson Road and First Street. It’ll be an apartment with about 220 units, the construction value is estimated to be $63 million dollars. The vantage project is scheduled to be complete in June of 2021.
“I moved to Fort Myers 26 years ago, and I’ve seen the progress of downtown, and it’s just been phenomenal,” said Lisa Sbuttoni, President and CEO River District Alliance.
