North Fort Myers, Fla -- You’ve probably never seen a horse hang out on a Lanai, well residents in one Southwest Florida neighborhood say they have and are concerned for the animal’s well being.
This all started because a neighbor sent a complaint to the Lee County Code Enforcement stating: "Horse in the yard and on a patio where he cannot even raise his head. This has been since Friday, March 15th. This is animal abuse.”
The complaint was referring to a Facebook post of a picture of "Jack," the horse standing on a lanai in a North Fort Myers home.
A neighbor, Kenny Civil, says he sees Jack almost every day and has no problem with him being there.
"No harm no foul as far as I’m concerned but my wife loves the horse so we have no problem with it," said Civil.
Fox 4 did speak with the horse's owners who say they bought Jack in Milton, Florida, a week ago. They say they left the horse in the lanai for one night to nurse a wound on its neck.
"I just think whoever called is being jealous and nosey, but you know what, I don’t understand, that’s ok because I get to show my horse off,” said Cindy Fila, who owns Jack.
Lee County Sheriff deputies came to the home to check things out, and code enforcement also left a note on their gate stating that having the horse on the property is a violation, since the area isn't zoned for livestock.
Fila said the horse will be going to Rainbow Horse Stable's in North Fort Myers within the next two weeks.
