Embattled NCH President Dr. Alan Weiss and his Chief of Staff Kevin Cooper submitted their resignations to the board of directors Wednesday.
The resignations come after months of public pressure over a pilot program that would require patients admitted to NCH to see only NCH doctors, rather than their primary physician.
Dr. Weiss said primary care doctors would have access to their patients records while they were under NCH care. However, the backlash was too much to overcome.
"The board shared that there have been valuable lessons learned over the past six months that include better patient satisfaction, stronger support for our nurses and overall outcomes," the hospital said in a statement Wednesday.
NCH named COO Phil Dutcher as interim president until a new president is named.
