NAPLES, Fla. --- The Naples Zoo announcing,Thursday, its final exhibit will re-open this weekend after being closed due to damage from Hurricane Irma.
The Oasis exhibit suffered severe damage from the storm that required staff members to update the exhibit with all new fencing, shade structures, plants and trees. The Zoo incurred over $700,000 in damages and was closed for over 4 weeks.
"We are thrilled for the last exhibit damaged from the hurricane to re-open," said Naples Zoo President and CEO Jack Mulvena. "We are very thankful for our dedicated staff, volunteers, board of directors and out donors for their commitment to our animals and beautiful, historic botanical collection."
The Oasis exhibit will feature a pair of endangered mountain bongos, which are the largest forest antelope and can weigh up to 800 pounds.
