NAPLES, Fla. — Yuki, the Naples wolf who became well-known for the size of his personality as well as his stature, has passed away.
Caretakers at the Shy Wolf Sanctuary found him after he didn’t show up for medicine during morning rounds. Yuki was diagnosed with blood cancer three years ago. The sanctuary believes an immune supplement he was taking helped to extend his life.
Yuki left peacefully overnight on his own terms and lived an incredible, happy 13 years of life. Bella, his pack-mate, seems to be doing okay, according to a sanctuary Facebook post.
Yuki became known as the “dire wolf” in a photo that went viral about two years ago.
“Yuki’s legacy reaches around the world due to his unique personality and size,” the Facebook post says. “Yuki taught us all about patience, love, and understanding as all animals have unique personalities and set their own boundaries.”
A special tribute to Yuki will be held Sat., Nov. 14, from 3-6 pm, during a live WolfStock broadcast.
