Naples man accused of stealing guns, jewelry from home after Hurricane Irma

COLLIER COUNTY, Fla. -- A Naples man is in jail after being accused of stealing nearly $10,000 worth of items from an unoccupied home in the wake of Hurricane Irma.

19-year-old James Harris was arrested at the Collier County Jail on Thursday and charged with Armed Burglary During a State of Emergency, Grand Theft Firearm, and Grand Theft.

According to the Collier County Sheriff's Office, investigators were notified on September 17th that somebody had stolen eight firearms, ammunition, a computer, and jewelry from a home in the Timberwood community off Airport-Pulling Road.

The victim says they had evacuated the home on September 8th in advance of the hurricane, and discovered the break-in when they returned home on the 17th.

Investigators recovered a fingerprint on an item in the home belonging to Harris, whom the victim says they did not know.

Harris was contacted at the Collier County Jail and arrested.
