Naples businesses coping with nearby fires

As the Greenway Fire burned, people began preparing. Residents in the area near Collier Boulevard waited for any sign that they might have to evacuate. Businesses owners, like homeowners, were also on edge, but they kept their doors open; determined to keep a sense of normalcy.

One of those businesses was Skillets in Naples. The restaurant is not far from where the Florida Fire Service has set up a command post as they try to contain the blaze that's grown to more than 16,000 acres. One of the servers told Four in Your Corner that the when she came in to work over the weekend the fires had already taken a toll on the number of customers they would normally serve.

“The smoke was actually coming inside the building and we actually saw a dropping people. I think people were afraid to leave their homes."

Even though the flames didn't get close to the restaurant, the smoke made it hard to see, and outdoor dining became impossible.

“Sunday and Monday we could not even see across the street, the smoke was so think. Outside, people couldn't’t sit outside because they were coughing, it was affecting their health."

The smoke didn't stop her from moving customers inside, and serving them great food with a smile. While firefighters continue to try and contain the nearby Greenway Fire, she's offering people who come into the restaurant optimism.
