COLLIER COUNTY, Fla. -- One motorcyclist died on Alligator Alley on New Year's Day after rear-ending a minivan.
It happened just before 7 p.m. near mile marker 51 in the westbound lanes of Interstate 75.
According to Florida Highway Patrol, the motorcyclist was riding in the outside lane when they approached a slower minivan. The motorcyclist failed to slow down in time and crashed into the rear end of the van.
The motorcyclist was thrown to the roadway before being hit by an SUV. The motorcyclist was pronounced dead at the scene.
No charges have been filed at this time, but the crash remains under investigation.
UPDATE (1/3): The motorcyclist has been identified as 30-year-old Javier Hernandez of Miramar, Fla.
