CAPE CORAL, Fla. -- A man is dead following a single-vehicle motorcycle crash in Cape Coral, and police say alcohol or drugs were a factor.
According to Cape Coral Police, Shawn O’Brien was rushed to Lee Memorial Hospital Saturday afternoon after a crash on Veterans Parkway. He died that evening from his injuries.
Police say that just before 3 p.m., O'Brien was riding at a high rate of speed southeast on Veterans near Surfside Boulevard when he lost control of his Harley Davidson motorcycle along a curve in the road.
The motorcycle left the roadway and went nearly 500 feet before falling over in the grass and ejecting O’Brien. The motorcycle eventually stopped 700 feet from where it left the roadway.
O’Brien was not wearing a helmet at the time of the crash.
