CAPE CORAL, Fla. -- Police say a fleeing motorcyclist was arrested Thursday when he pulled into a parking lot full of officers.

23-year-old Austin Wong is charged with fleeing and eluding an officer, and carrying a concealed weapon without a permit.

According to Cape Coral Police, around 6: 40 p.m., an officer attempted to pull Wong over for speeding and passing on the shoulder. Instead of stopping, Wong sped off westbound on Pine Island Road.

The officer discontinued the pursuit for safety reasons, but Wong then pulled into the parking lot of the Walmart Neighborhood Market near Nicholas Parkway, where officers were working an unrelated retail theft.

One officer saw Wong dismount the motorcycle and attempt to walk behind the shopping center. He was detained and found to have a stolen handgun in his waistband.

Wong was taken to Lee County Jail, where he was booked and later released on bond.
