CAPE CORAL, Fla. -- A Cape Coral man was seriously injured Thursday night after losing control of his motorcycle while speeding on Del Prado Boulevard South.

According to Cape Coral Police, 60-year-old David Chandler was taken to Lee Memorial with a head injury that is non-life threatening.

Police say that just before 9 p.m. Thursday, Chandler was riding northbound on Del Prado approaching Savona Parkway while speeding. That's when a southbound pickup truck made a u-turn at the intersection, causing Chandler to lay down the motorcycle onto the roadway.

The bike slid approximately 250 feet before stopping.

Witnesses say Chandler began walking around after the crash, but began going in and out of consciousness. He was trauma alerted to the hospital.

There was no collision with the pickup truck, but officers are still investigating whether the driver allowed enough space for Chandler before making the u-turn.

Police closed the intersection for approximately two and a half hours while investigating.

Drugs or alcohol were a factor in the crash.
