CAPE CORAL, Fla. -- Police are investigating a deadly crash that happened between a scooter and a minivan on Skyline Boulevard Thursday night.
It happened around at 8:50 p.m. on Skyline Boulevard and Southwest 37th Street. Skyline was shut down for hours, but is back open now.
The victim has been identified as 48-year-old Matthew Girard.
A man we spoke with says he was a regular customer at the nearby Circle K.
Another man who lives near the crash scene says the intersection is a major danger for drivers. “This is the third accident that has happened this week. We had one on Sunday, and Tuesday, and now this. I think it's the bush out there. It's kind of high, so when people are turning they can't see. And that's probably what happened."
According to Cape Coral Police, Girard was riding a Honda Ruckus scooter northbound on Skyline and made a left turn into the path of the southbound minivan. The van hit the right side of the scooter, breaking it into two sections and sending Girard onto the roadway.
Girard was pronounced dead at the scene. He was wearing a helmet at the time of the crash.
None of the three people in the van were injured.
No charges have been filed.
