MARCO ISLAND, Fla — The Marco Island Boxing Club is a non profit gym that needs a new or lightly used van so club members can get to tournaments and matches around the state.
"We need to put these kids in a passenger van, so they are exposed to more competition and better competition and a variety of it too," said Co-founder Dale Downey.
Dozens of kids, from age 7 and up compete at the gym after school.
"I like it, it keeps me out of trouble, it shows you self respect and responsibility. It's my kind of sport," said 16-year-old Ruycel Blanco.
The gym needs reliable transportation so kids can get to sparring matches, which can be as far away as Georgia.
"Right now it's like who can drive, and we're taking chances ourselves with the kids in separate vehicles," said founder Rich Soltenborg.
