CHARLOTTE COUNTY, Fla. -- The State of Florida has sentenced a man to 23 years in prison for violently beating his 51-year-old father to death in his home.
According to the State Attorney's Office, 34-year-old Jeffrey Patrick Mulligan used his fists to kill 51-year-old Patrick Mulligan in April 2017.
Authorities say Jeffrey was smashing his father's head into the floor when his sister and her boyfriend walked in.
The sister told deputies her brother laughed, and then said, "he will never hit another woman again."
911 was called, and responding deputies found Jeffrey covered in blood and mopping the floor, and Patrick dead on the bathroom floor.
Jeffrey admitted that he had beaten his father and continued saying that he was sorry. He claimed he was just beating his father and had no intent to kill him.
He entered a plea of no contest to a charge of Second Degree Murder and was sentenced to 23 years as recommended within the plea agreement that he entered into with the State of Florida.
