Man dies in Fort Myers after being shot and crashing into a power pole

FORT MYERS, Fla. — FORT MYERS, Fla. - Around 7:30pm last night, The Fort Myers Police Department says Nathaniel Willis Pitts was found suffering from gunshot wounds in a black truck crashed into a power pole.

Captain Jay Rodriguez told FOX 4 an app called Shot Spotter alerted Fort Myers Police Officers about a shooting on Seaboard and Michigan.
While in route to the shooting, authorities say they found Pitts fighting for his life. Pitts was transported to Lee memorial Hospital where he was pronounced dead.

Officers tell us, a second car was involved in the murder and the shooter(s) has not been arrested or identified. "There are no suspects at this time" Rodriguez says.

Pitts crashed the truck next to resident, Joan Jordan's driveway-- she says she witnesses the scene. "The truck--rather-- hit the telegram pole and the driver was there and we out help the driver but..."

Another witness, Randy Joseph says the neighborhood lost power for hours after Pitts crashed the truck into the power line. "We didn't get power back until around 5am this morning."

Pitts son, Nathaniel Jr. was shot and killed in 2016. His older son, Natyri, was shot two days after his brother was murdered-- Natyri survived.
