FORT MYERS, Fla. -- Detectives have arrested a Fort Myers man for stealing emergency oxygen tanks that he says were for his sick mother.

39-year-old Robert Kemp is charged with Theft of Emergency Equipment.

According to a Lee County Sheriff's Office report, security personnel at Gulf Coast Medical Center reported seeing two men loading oxygen tanks valued at $500 each into an SUV around 1 a.m. on August 7th.

On August 21st, deputies were notified that one of the suspects, later identified as Kemp, entered the hospital. He was detained and shown surveillance video of the theft. Kemp identified himself in the video, and told investigators that his mother was ill and he was stealing the oxygen for her.

Kemp was booked into the Lee County Jail.

The other suspect seen with Kemp in the video is described as having a tall thin build, and was wearing a greenish long sleeved shirt.
