LEE COUNTY, Fla. -- A dog found in Lehigh Acres suffered serious injuries after investigators say the owners left him tied to a basketball hoop for days.

The Lee County Sheriff's Office held a press conference Wednesday reporting the owner tied the rope so tightly that it cut into the dog's neck, and left the dog outside in the sun with minimal water and shade.

Animal Cotrol responded to a home on Palmetto Drive on March 4th after a caller reported seeing the animal in distress. The responding officer found the dog tied tightly to a basketball hoop with a severe neck injury.

The dog was taken in for evaluation by a veterinarian, who inspected the wound, which was one inch deep and five inches long. They estimate the tight lead had been present on the dog for approximately 25 days.

LCSO arrested 39-year-old Salvador Carbajal for aggravated animal assault on Wednesday.
